This week Angus Council took the responsible and appropriate decision to prohibit the installation and replacement  of wood burners, stoves, open fires, and other open-flued appliances in homes owned by them.

The Royal College of Physicians   The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health , The Royal College of General Practitioners Asthma and Lung UK Scotland  Mums For Lungs  and Global Action Plan have all been raising awareness of the health damaging effects of wood burning for some time now.

Unlike the Scottish and UK Governments, Angus Council along with a number of local authorities in England have taken on board all the health harming facts that prove how damaging the pollution from burning wood and other solid fuels  is to everyones’ health.

Local Authorities in England have also been taking action on this issue by launching their own public awareness campaigns on the health damaging  effects of solid fuel burning.

Lambeth Council have asked their residents to take the #StopWoodBurning pledge and other councils are using the Burny character posts from the London Woodburning Project.   Winchester Council  have also been raising awareness.  Other councils across England have joined in with raising awareness of the issue by sharing ads from Global Action Plan’s Clean Air Night. Here are some other campaigns from English local authorities.

This one from Brighton and Hove Council gets straight to the point.

This #ClearTheAir ad from Birmingham City Council also clearly states the case.

Hackney Council have gone with this  great ad.

Oxford City Council have launched their ad campaign too

It’s becoming more difficult to ignore  the harm to health and environment being caused by the rise in popularity of burning wood.  It’s time for Government Ministers and the media to take notice and take action.
