Clean Air Night  gets bigger and better every year with more health and environmental groups getting involved year on year and all raising awareness of the health and environmental harms of all types of domestic solid fuel burning.

As part of raising awareness of pollution from woodburning and to help publicise  #CleanAirNight, we took part in a webinar about air pollution hosted by Environmental Rights Centre Scotland . Our presentation was preceded by Professor Jill Belch CBE, Head of Cardiovascular Research at Dundee University and  was  followed by Dr Malcom White from Global Action Plan. The full webinar can be found here and is well worth a watch.  The presentations from everyone were very eye opening and informative. Our presentation can also be viewed on youtube (see below)

Healthy Air Scotland Manifesto launch

Healthy Air Scotland (a  coalition of clean air advocates, health and environmental charities and organisations) launched their Manifesto for clean air with a presence outside the Scottish Parliament on #CleanAirNight.

The manifesto is asking political parties to adopt a set of measures to reduce air pollution in their election manifestos.  Regarding solid fuel burning, the manifesto asks that a national awareness campaign on the harms of solid fuel burning be launched, restrictions placed on new stove installation and  a stove scrappage scheme.  Read more about it here.

An Asthma and Lung UK survey of Scottish adults found that 53% believe there is insufficient understanding of the health risks linked to wood-burning stoves. Nearly half of respondents supported phasing out solid fuel burning due to its harmful emissions,

Mums For Lungs

Mums For Lungs celebrated #CleanAirNight by asking members to put up colourful posters across the UK  in public spaces and imaginatively display them and share on social media.

Public Consultation on solid fuel burning launched

The UK Government has now asked for an official public consultation on solid fuel burning.  The consultation is open to everyone:  individuals and organisations alike and will close on 19th March 2026.

Your opinion counts and completing  this consultation is the best way to ensure effective policies are established regarding solid fuel burning.
